Extended the conventional comprehension of agriculture past â€Å"garden† development. Turkey (1962) gave an outline of those engaged with the field of agriculture, in expressing that there are the individuals who are worried about the science or organic side, those worried about the business side lastly the individuals who are worried about the home or workmanship side, which appreciate plants just for the fulfillment they get from them. Basically it is a craftsmanship, yet it is personally associated with science at each point. The nursery impact is a procedure by which warm radiation from a planetary surface is consumed by barometrical ozone harming substances, and is re-transmitted every which way. Since part of this re-radiation is back towards the surface and the lower air, it brings about a rise of the normal surface temperature above what it would be without the gases. Sun powered radiation at the frequencies of obvious light to a great extent goes through the air to warm the planetary surface, which at that point discharges this vitality at the lower frequencies of infrared warm radiation. Infrared radiation is consumed by ozone harming substances, which thus re-transmit a significant part of the vitality to the surface and lower environment. The instrument is named after the impact of sun based radiation going through glass and warming a nursery, however the manner in which it holds heat is in a general sense diverse as a nursery works by diminishing wind current, detaching the warm air inside the structure so heat isn't lost by convection. In the event that a perfect thermally conductive blackbody was a similar good ways from the Sun as the Earth may be, it would have a temperature of about 5.3  °C. Be that as it may, since the Earth reflects about 30% of the approaching daylight, the planet’s compelling temperature (the temperature of a blackbody that would transmit a similar measure of radiation) is about âˆ'18  °C,[7][8] about 33 °C beneath the genuine surface temperature of around 14  °C.[ The instrument that creates this distinction between the real surface temperature and the viable temperature is because of the environment and is known as the nursery impact. Earth’s common nursery impact makes life as we probably am aware it conceivable. Notwithstanding, human exercises, essentially the consuming of non-renewable energy sources and freeing from woods, have strengthened the common nursery impact, causing an Earth-wide temperature boost. Elisabeth Condon’s Nocturne vs. Vincent van Gogh’s The...

Similarity in theme and color first drew me to select Elisabeth Condon’s Nocturne (Bob Rauschenberg Gallery) and Vincent van Gogh’s The Starry Night (Frank 348) for this research paper. Initially I wanted to pick two pieces that were different enough in order to form a decent comparison and yet alike enough to connect them in some way. In the art gallery, Nocturne gave me a feeling similar to the one I experienced when I first saw The Starry Night; there was something otherworldly and mystical about it. It made you look at a greater expanse then the bit of landscape that was shown in an unexpected way. Though each work was made in over a hundred year gap from the other, both works use a brilliant use of color and a view of the sky†¦show more content†¦The artist of Nocturne, Elisabeth Condon, was heavily influenced by the places she has visited. Her own craft of improvisational paint pouring combined with the influence of Eastern art, specifically Chinese scrolls, helps to create the unique presence that each painting holds. â€Å"Her paintings, collages and drawings use improvisational pours of paint, sketchbook drawings and digital projections to establish idiosyncratic compositions. Heeding the Tang Dynasty dictum of landscape as a fusion of observation and memory, they interweave external and internal perceptions of particular locations† (ABOUT: Biography). The Starry Night is an oil painting that depicts a small, nestled town under an almost magical sky. This piece, much like Elisabeth’s Nocturne, possesses a dominance of cool hues. While both paintings depict a night sky, Vincent van Gogh’s The Starry Night actually leads the observer’s eyes through the painting due to it’s brush strokes and fluidity. Although the work is very fluid and almost kinetic, it is not overwhelming or busy. Its rhythm is purposeful, not noisy. In fact, the painting almost gives off a calming, spiritual feeling to the viewer. The sky over the nestled town is a swirl of blue, yellow, and orange tints and shades that demonstrates an almost ethereal influence as if something greater is meant to be shown than what is simply before the observer. Cubism Art Essay Example For Students

Cubism Art Essay Cubism is the fragmenting of three-dimensional forms into areas of pattern and color, overlapping and intertwining so that shapes and parts of the human anatomy are seen from the front and back at the same time. Cubism was first introduced to the world in 1907 by Picasso and Braque. Its introduction, into the art world, changed the viewers visual representation. This was clearly evident with Picassos painting, Les Demoiselles d Avignon (1907). Many found this painting very disturbing and ugly, but the painting was groundbreaking in the history of modern art. This painting contributes to a general impression of disorientation in space. However, the painting Portrait of Olga in an Armchair (1917) may or may not be typical of Picassos cubism work. Cubism has been divided into two phases, the first phase being abstract cubism. Abstract cubism limited the artists use of color; most pallets were restricted or dominated to mostly grays and browns with strong, harsh coloring. The artist felt that the use of color interfered with the viewers perception of the form. This is somewhat evident in Les Demoiselles d Avignon but not in Portrait of Olga in an Armchair. The second phase is synthetic or collage cubism. This type of cubism used more decorative shapes, stenciling, and bright colors. Also, during this phase Picasso started using cut-up newspaper in his paintings. It is clearly evident that the Portrait of Olga in an Armchair uses beautiful colors that are cool and serene, but does not suggest a cubist painting. Les Demoiselles d Avignon and Portrait of Olga in an Armchair seem to be two vastly different styles of art. The Les Demoiselles d Avignon portrays five nudes grouped around a still life. The three nudes on the left are severe distortions of classical figures, and the other two nudes have violently dislocated features and bodies. The colors used by Picasso are strong and harsh, but the three middle nudes bodies are more or less monochromatic. Each individual figure is united by a general geometrical principle which superimposes its own laws on to the natural proportions, and they merge almost completely with the background, which is full of similar rugged cleavages. There are no distinctions of light and darkness that might lend shape to the womens bodies, and together with the combination of several perspectives, this contributes to a general impression of disorientation in space. (http://geocites. com) The Portrait of Olga in an Armchair is a portrait of Picassos wife, sitting somberly in an armchair. The background is monochromatic, but what is seen of the armchair is painted with vivid yet somewhat muted colors. The colors are neither sharp nor harsh. Her figure is not distorted with odd geometrical shapes, they are more realistic. However, part of the armchair from which she is sitting is not finished, part is still missing, therefore the painting itself was never finished. The color scheme in this painting is partial to Picassos cubism work, but I do not feel that it could be called a cubist painting, for the simple fact; Picasso was not consistent with a typical style, it was ever-changing. In my opinion, I feel that this painting is a combination of Picassos different styles, ranging from the Rose Period up to the Cubism period. Picasso stated, When I paint a bowl, I want to show you that it is round, of course. But the general rhythm of the picture, its composition framework, may compel me to show the round shape as a square. When you come to think of it, I am probably a painter without style. ?Style is often something that ties the artist down and makes him look at things in one particular way, the same technique, the same formulas, year after year, sometimes for a whole lifetime. You recognize him immediately, but he is always in the same suit, or a suit of the same cut. .u91d4077359cb41bb97cf7ec25bb993e0 , .u91d4077359cb41bb97cf7ec25bb993e0 .postImageUrl , .u91d4077359cb41bb97cf7ec25bb993e0 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u91d4077359cb41bb97cf7ec25bb993e0 , .u91d4077359cb41bb97cf7ec25bb993e0:hover , .u91d4077359cb41bb97cf7ec25bb993e0:visited , .u91d4077359cb41bb97cf7ec25bb993e0:active { border:0!important; } .u91d4077359cb41bb97cf7ec25bb993e0 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u91d4077359cb41bb97cf7ec25bb993e0 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u91d4077359cb41bb97cf7ec25bb993e0:active , .u91d4077359cb41bb97cf7ec25bb993e0:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u91d4077359cb41bb97cf7ec25bb993e0 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u91d4077359cb41bb97cf7ec25bb993e0 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u91d4077359cb41bb97cf7ec25bb993e0 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u91d4077359cb41bb97cf7ec25bb993e0 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u91d4077359cb41bb97cf7ec25bb993e0:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u91d4077359cb41bb97cf7ec25bb993e0 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u91d4077359cb41bb97cf7ec25bb993e0 .u91d4077359cb41bb97cf7ec25bb993e0-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u91d4077359cb41bb97cf7ec25bb993e0:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Art And It's Meaning EssayThere are, of course, great painters who have a certain style. However, I always thrash about rather wildly. I am a bit of a tramp. You can see me at this moment, but I have already changed, I am already somewhere else. I can never be tied down, and that is why I have no style. Also, the Portrait of Olga in an Armchair was painted during World War I. During this time, Picassos artwork changed. His forms were more realistic, human, and serious. Therefore, I do not believe this painting takes on any cubist qualities or ideals, but a more traditional style.

A Bad Leader free essay sample

Being a good leader means that someone is humble, thoughtful and unselfish. Creon is a rather weak man who has been placed into a position of authority and is incapable of handling the position well. He is a self-conceited man who is also very narrow minded. Creon who only thinks of himself, not the good of the people, causes him to lose many dear family members. And he doesnt like to be wrong or to be told that he is wrong. He is stubborn and doesnt want to change his mind for anything or anyone, which prevents him from being able to know how to handle situations well. Creon was not able to lead well, because he let the huge amount of power he had go to his head. His pride and selfishness clouded him from using good judgement. In the beginning of Antigone, Creon refuses to let anyone give Polynices, Antigone’s brother, a proper burial, because he â€Å"dishonored† his country and family by fighting against Thebes. We will write a custom essay sample on A Bad Leader or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Creon believes that burying Polynices will cause him to lose his power and control, because Polynices was Creon’s enemy. Creon clearly states that any man or woman who disobeys his laws by burying Polynices will be punished with no exception. By enforcing the law, it shows that Creon lacks sympathy for the beliefs of his people and his family, Antigone. Creon is a cruel leader who does not care about the needs of his people. The first sign that proves that Creon is cruel is when he founds out that Polynices has been buried and he tells the Sentry that if he does not discover who buried Polynices, he will kill him, â€Å"If you don’t find the man who buried that corpse, simple death won’t be enough for you†. He basically just said that he would be more than willing to kill the innocent Sentry, over a refusal of a burial for a family member. And even when Creon learns that Antigone was the one who buried Polynices, he still decides to execute her, even though she is his niece. Tiresias, the blind prophet of Thebes, even told Creon not to kill Antigone, because she was loved by the gods and by the people of Thebes, and he still insists that she must die. When he finally agrees that maybe he should free Antigone and bury Polyneices, he does those two things, but not soon enough. Antigone is left in the tomb, while Polyneices is being given a proper burial, and she hangs herself before she can be let out. After Antigone’s suicide, Haemon, Creon’s son who was in love with Antigone, and Creon’s wife also commit suicide and Creon must face the fact that his misguided stubbornness has killed everyone that was dear to him. Because of Creon’s cruelty, he lost his loved ones and all of his respect, because it was only when suffering became personalized to himself that he realized what an ineffective leader and self-centered person he has been. A good leader needs to be open about others thoughts and opinions in order to come up with what is best for everyone. Creon obviously is not a good leader at all, because he can’t appreciate and listen to many problems from different perspectives. Creons pride causes him to be afraid to admit that he has made a mistake; and it leads to his downfall and drags his loved ones down with him. For instance, he could have opened his mind to others ways of thinking or take a vote as to what the people wanted to do. Instead, he took complete control of the situation, which ended up making him look like an idiot. Earlier in Antigone, Haemon asks Creon to let Antigone go, because he said he heard that â€Å"the city mourns for this young girl† (Sophocles 776) and suggests that he have good judgment and spare Antigone’s life. Haemon also claims that the people believe that No woman ever deserved death less, and such a brutal death for such a glorious action† (Sophocles 777-778). But Creon is so determined to bring death to Antigone, that he cannot see with his narrow mind the danger in doing this and how his act may destroy everything he loved. A good leader should know when to kneel down instead of trying to put everyone and everything under him. If he could have shown humbleness, generosity, and thoughtfulness he would have been a better leader who could have earned more respect and love from the citizens. Creon’s excessive pride and unnecessary cruelty eventually result in the death three of his family members and his terrible regret when he realizes that he has nothing left, â€Å"once more a crushing fate’s come down upon my head†.

The Definition of Natural Experiment in Economics

The Definition of Natural Experiment in Economics A  natural experiment  is an empirical or observational study in which the control and experimental variables of interest are not artificially manipulated by researchers but instead are allowed to be influenced by nature or factors outside of the researchers control. Unlike traditional randomized experiments, natural experiments are not controlled by researchers  but rather observed and analyzed. Natural Experiments Versus Observational Studies So if natural experiments are not controlled but rather observed by researchers, what is there to distinguish them from purely observational studies? The answer is that natural experiments still follow the primary principles of experimental study. Natural experiments are most effective when they mimic as closely as possible the existence of test and control groups of controlled experiments, which is to say that there is a clearly defined exposure to some condition in a clearly defined population and the absence of that exposure in another similar population for comparison. When such groups are present, the processes behind natural experiments are said to resemble randomization even when researchers do not interfere. Under these conditions, observed outcomes of natural experiments can feasibly be credited to the exposure meaning that there is some cause for belief in a causal relationship as opposed to simple correlation. It is this characteristic of natural experiments - the effective comparison that makes a case for the existence of a causal relationship - that distinguishes natural experiments from purely non-experimental observational studies. But that is not to say that natural experiments arent without their critics and validation difficulties. In practice, the circumstances surrounding a natural experiment are often complex and their observations will never unequivocally prove causation. Instead, they provide an important inferential method through which researchers can gather information about a research question upon which data might otherwise not be available. Natural Experiments in Economics In the social sciences, particularly economics, the expensive nature and limitations of traditionally controlled experiments involving human subjects has long been recognized as a limitation for the development and progress of the field. As such, natural experiments provide a rare testing ground for economists and their colleagues. Natural experiments are used when such controlled experimentation would be too difficult, expensive, or unethical as is the case with many human experiments. Opportunities for natural experimentation are of the utmost importance to subjects like epidemiology or the study of health and disease conditions in defined populations in which experimental study would problematic, to say the least. But natural experiments are also used by researchers in the field of economics to study otherwise difficult to test subjects and are often possible when there is some change in law, policy, or practice in a defined space like a nation, jurisdiction, or even social group. Some examples of economics research questions that have been studied through natural experimentation include: The return on investment of higher education in American adultsThe effect of military service on lifetime earning  The effect of public smoking bans on hospital admissions Journal Articles on Natural Experiment: The Economic Consequences of Unwed Motherhood: Using Twin Births as a Natural ExperimentNatural and Quasi-Experiments in EconomicsA Natural Experiment in Jeopardy!

Philosophy of Science (follow on piece) Coursework

Philosophy of Science (follow on piece) - Coursework Example e European astrologists pay more attention to planets and their supposed influence on the people, while their counterparts in Ancient Egypt were more concerned with constellations and attributed the similar functions to them. If an astrologist practices this science in such a way and comes to such remarkable results, then surely the latter should be taken into close consideration and carefully examined. However, even such remarkable fact will not be able to prove that astrology in general is a real science and many people who practice it before did not care to perform such experiments and were not strict about their scientific investigation. As for a shift in paradigm of astrology, it is true that sometimes sciences discover fundamental facts do not need more proof. However, in case of astrology, one might suggest that there has not been hardly any proof of its postulates. That is why if a careful investigation is done, the alleged influence of the planets might need to be

Body Paragraphs Essay Example for Free

Body Paragraphs Essay There have been thousands of studies done on the effects of television on children. Most of these studies have leaned toward the negative effects that television has on children. According to a study by the University of Michigan, even though television can have positive effects it can also affect the health, behavior and family life of children in negative ways. Also while studies have been done on the effects that television has on children under the age of two there has been no clear evidence on the effects. Some studies have shown that it may lead to learning and attention problems, but not the experts have agreed this is true. Children are seeing more and more violence on television every day. Even in G rated movies children are subject to violent acts. All we have to do is look at some of the Disney movies over the years. While Snow White was a positive upbeat person that was nice to everyone, she was still killed by the wicked witch. The movie the Lion King shows children how Scar plotted the death of Mufasa and it shows Simba coming back for revenge. Then you have cartoons like The Simpsons and Family Guy. These show play up the use of foul language, violence, and disrespecting everyone, especially your parents. The characters on these shows have become idols. Bart Simpson and Stewie have become idols to children. They talk like them and act like them. They think that when they are violent or they curse or when they disrespect their parents it is funny and something that they should do. An average American child will see 200,000 violent acts and 16,000 murders on TV by the age of 18 (www.med.umich.edu). This viewing of violent acts are desensitizing are children to violence. They are becoming less aware of violent acts or just don’t care that much when they happen right in front of  them. There is a research report that was written in 2009 by Brad J. Bushman and Craig A. Anderson called â€Å"Comfortably Numb The Desensitizing Effects of Violent Media on Helping Others. This research shows the how violence in movies and on television desensitizes people to violent acts or the plights of others around them. They are also their fear of the world is increased. They are seeing that not only the bad guys are violent but the good guys are extremely violent and that they get away with the violence. Children are not sure who they can trust or who is good. Some even see that by becoming the â€Å"good guy† you can get away with more bad behavior. According to KidHealth.org, TV characters often depict risky behaviors, such as smoking and drinking, these same characters are reinforcing gender-role and racial stereotypes. I know that our doctor told my daughter to watch Teen Mom. This show may show the downsides to teen parenthood, in my opinion it has kids thinking it would be cool to have a child and then maybe they could get on television. I have spoken to several different people from my daughters parenting class and I have talked to my daughters Family First specialist. They have agreed that shows like these are not good models for teen moms. Yes, they may show the difficulties that these girls have but they also show these girls still having sex, disrespecting their parents and fighting. Also all have agreed that too much television and television that is not supervised can be harmful to children. According to KidsHealth.org children who spend too much time in front of the television are more likely to become overweight. Children are spending more time in front of the television which is making them less active. They do not go outside and play sports or socialize with other children. Children are more likely to constantly snack while watching television. These are not always healthy snacks. They are things like cookies and chips. They see the commercials for these and their minds tell them that they want them. By limiting the time that your children are watching television you will be able to help them become more active and more sociable. On the reverse side of this situation, though, is that some of the negativity  can be reduced as long as parents limit the amount of time that children spend in front of the television. It has been suggested that no more than 2-3 hours a day of television for older children and 1-2 hours of television for younger children. Also parents need to supervise and be aware of what their children are watching. Television can be a learning experience as long as parents take the time to talk to their children about what is being watched on television. Parents can also be a positive role model for their children by limiting the time they watch television. They need to watch more positive programs when they are watching television with their children. If there is something bad on the show they need to take the time to explain to their children the behavior that they saw on the television program was not appropriate and why it wasn’t appropriate.

Kate Chopin’s The Awakening - The Feminist Awakening Essay -- Kate Cho

The Feminist Awakening    Women’s rights have evolved over time; beginning with being homemakers and evolving to obtaining professions, acquiring an education, and gaining the right to vote. The movement that created all these revolutionary changes was called the feminist movement. The feminist movement occurred in the twentieth century. Many people are not aware of the purpose of the feminist movement. The movement was political and social and it sought to set up equality for women. Women’s groups in the United States worked together to win women’s suffrage and later to create and support the Equal Rights Amendment. The economic boom between 1917 and the early 1960s brought many American women into the workplace. As women began to join the workplace they became progressively more aware of their unequal economic and social status. Homemakers, many of whom who had previously obtained college educations, began to voice their lack of personal fulfillment. They had an awakening, they realized their lives were not fulfilled and wanted more than what the restraints of society would offer them. Many literary works were born from the feminist movement; each enabling women to achieve more than what society expected of them and to push the societal limits. The Awakening is a prototype of the feminist movement.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Kate Chopin’s novel The Awakening follows a common theme in literature. She uses the novel as a way to demonstrate the emancipation of women. Peggy Skaggs believes that Chopin’s life experiences have affected her writing: â€Å"Her life and experiences as a woman apparently affirmed the truths she expressed first in â€Å"Emancipation†, and her development as a literary artist enabled her to transpose those truths into art with ... ... had and the ability to live on their own. Edna is used to model a woman who would have been involved in the feminist movement. Works Cited Bloom, Harold. Kate Chopin. New York. Chelsea House, 1987. Bloom, Harold. Bloom’s Notes. Respecting Others Religions Essay

I think it is very important to respect other peoples religions because it can create a conflicts between people, perfect examples of conflicts because of religion are the wars that go on in the world today. You must be conscious and respectful when talking about other peoples religions, insulting someone else’s religion is insulting something very meaningful to them and also insulting them. Just because people do not share the same religion does not make either more or less smart, pure, evil. If you look at the bigger picture, most religions share common teachings, beliefs, and morals to live by such as have compassion and respect for everyone, all humanity is united, peace and nonviolence, and no killing, lying,or stealing. Another reason to be respectful towards someone else religion is because it can bring different cultures closer together. Respecting and accepting each others religions means one less reason to discriminate others and less conflicts and fights. You can respect someone else’s religion by trying to understand their beliefs and their point of view of the world, you don’t have to agree with it and you don’t need to practice it but you do not need to disrespect it if you strongly disagree or attempt to make them change their religion simply because you do not agree with theirs. A simple way to avoid problems when or misunderstanding when going to another country is to study a bit about the basic customs and religion before you go. Also, do not judge someone by the religion they follow, judge them on their character as a person, do not discriminate them because they practice a different religion from yours because they could be a very kind and intelligent person and you will never know. I think that we can all learn something from each others religions like I learned from Buddhism that the way to stop suffering is to stop wanting worldly things, and that is true. We always want more of anything, so we are never truly happy, and the way to achieve inner peace is to stop wanting and to accept and value the things that we already possess and cherish the things that do not cost money yet bring happiness. I believe that wether you choose to follow different religions or not you at all you still learn from one another and it can make the world a better place. We just need to learn to accept, understand, and be willing to learn from one another. By being respectful to one another we can form new bonds and bring people closer together, you don’t all need to follow the same religion to be a good person. To be a good person is the choice you have to make on your own. I think we should all respect each others beliefs and treat others as we ourselves would like to be treated. Religions may seem silly to some people, and sometimes it seems silly to me too, but it is what gives people hope, what keeps them on the right path to be a good person, what inspires them to try to learn and try their best and it just gives them hope. Religion in the end is a choice and you should be free to believe what you want to believe or not believe in anything at all but you should always be respected for your choices.

Bias Being Tilted Towards On Side Of Thinking - 948 Words
